I wish my hair was thicker, and I wish my feet were prettier. My toes are really ugly. I wish my ears were smaller. And my nose could be smaller too.
~Britney Spears
So, there you go. Britney Spears. Another example of someone you might never think of having ugly feet – or any other ugly features for that matter. Just goes to show you, what your mother said was true. “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” Or on the end of someone else’s feet.
Self Image From The Toes Up
No matter where you are from, how old you are or how much money you have, our feet are an extension of our self-image. Simple as that.
Everyone’s feet are different. And everyone’s toes are different. There are long toes, short stubby toes, toes that curl, toes that are flat, toes that have tiny toenails, those that have thick curved toenails. One of the biggest culprits that make people think they have ugly toes? Those tiny, pointy little baby toenails…the kind that look like they’re barely there.
There are a lot of factors surrounding the appearance of your toes. If you think your toes are not quite right, there may be some things you can do to improve their appearance. Some of the factors may include:
- How often you’re on your feet
- The type of shoe you wear… Do they rub against the tops of your toes, or squeeze your feet?
- How often are your feet actually in shoes… are they frequently wet?
- What about your toenails… Do you care for them?
Toe Conditions
There are all types of problems for all types of feet. When it comes to toes, there are a host of toe conditions, some minor, some more serious:
- Toenail Fungus
- Hammertoes
- Ingrown Toenails
- Claw Toe
Toe conditions that result in pain can come from many different sources…primarily shoes. Shoes that are too tight, high heels, incorrect arches can contribute to increasing pain and discomfort.
Taking a critical look at your feet (and specifically your toes) can lead you make some simple changes and how you treat your feet. Whether it’s a pedicure or a change in the type of shoe you wear, comfort is an important part of how your toes look.
So take heart, join the no shame zone, love the peds you got, and let yourself go barefoot when you can. Make your best effort to scrub, scrape and polish, use the tools available to minimize the less attractive parts of your feet and find some stylish shoes that flatter the good parts and minimize the not so good. Most of all? Love your feet!
